Sign a PDF
No printing or scanning needed: place a drawn signature or a typed name on your PDF, with a transparent background.
Create and place a signature
- Open a PDF in the editor and press Sign in the toolbar (shortcut S).
- On the Draw tab, sign in the box with a mouse, finger or stylus. Choose the line width and color, and use Clear to start over.
- On the Type tab, enter your name and pick a typeface (serif italic, serif or sans).
- Press Place signature. It appears on the current page; drag it into position and use the corner handles to resize it.
Only the inked area is kept, on a transparent background, so it sits cleanly on top of a signature line or stamp box.
Save it for next time
If “Save in this browser” is ticked when you place a signature, the image is stored only in this browser (up to 5). Next time, click one under “Saved signatures” in the dialog to place it right away. Nothing is sent to a server; remove one with its × button or by clearing this site's data in your browser. On a shared computer, untick the box.
Good to know
- The signature you place is an image. It is not a certificate-based digital signature and doesn't add legal validity by itself. Check which kind of signature the recipient requires.
- Like other annotations, the signature is merged into the PDF when you download. You can't move it afterwards, so check its position before saving.
- To use a photo of a handwritten signature instead, add it with Image in the toolbar.
